And yet,
I know that something will be retained.
I know
that at this very moment
the paintings are beginning to fade from memory.
I know that the snare set by the painter Tonnerre
is beginning to show results.

The gestures,
the same gestures repeated from painting to painting
loom up,
in isolation,
to better efface the paintings themselves
and what they represent.
So,
let us forget.
Let us allow
the paintings to fade…
to vanish…
so that all that remains
is the isolated gestures,
the gestures of ‘The Ceremony’.
